The New York Mets is short for Metropolitans.

New York Mets History

The New York Mets were founded in 1962 to replace the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants after they left New York City. During their 1962 inaugural season, the Mets posted a 40-120 season record, which is still the worst record in Major League Baseball history. They would go on to win their first World Series in 1969 when they beat the Baltimore Orioles in one of the biggest upsets in World Series history. After that unforgettable year, the Mets have had many triumphs. They even won another world championship in 1986 and seem to always put an exciting team on the field. With a bevy of great names from the past and some exciting current stars like David Wright and Jose Reyes, it’s always a great time to come out and meet the Mets.

New York Mets Team Colors

The Mets’ colors are blue, orange, black and white. Blue and orange were originally chosen to honor the city’s history of National League baseball; blue for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and orange for the New York Giants. Blue and orange are also the colors of New York City, as seen on its flag.

Shea Stadium and Citi Stadium

From 1964 until 2008, the Mets played all their home games at Shea Stadium. They moved to Citi Stadium in 2009. Citi Field features unprecedented amenities and comfort for Mets fans, sports fans and visitors to the New York metropolitan area.
